Happy new year! If you live near Chicago, be sure to join us at Links Hall Jan 13, 14 or 15 for Sleeptalk. Among Wolves director Shawn Convey lends multi-projector visuals to brilliant choreographer and dance activist Ashley Fargnoli’s most ambitious project yet. Plus, Josh Convey, who scored our film, will also be in town to perform his live score for the project as well. This is going to be excellent.

Sleeptalk is a collaborative, experimental dance work about sleep talking and our relationship to the unconscious. Developed around actual recordings of sleep talking, it explores the revealing, disturbing, and even humorous things that can surface, translating them through an appropriately dreamlike mix of media. Conceived by Ashley Fargnoli in collaboration with the dancers, a videographer, composer, and set designer, Sleeptalk is inspired by Fargnoli’s own sleep talking, which began as a reaction to the vicarious trauma she encountered working as a trauma therapist. As the performance unfolds, it moves from the personal to Jung’s collective unconscious. The audience will discover threads that link the dancer’s stories and the mysterious power of the unconscious that connect us all.

Among Wolves Chicago international
Holy zow. What a whirlwind. Our team is small, so we have to cram a lot into our updates now that things are rolling. It’s been a huge couple of weeks for us.
World premiere at Chicago International
Our world premiere screenings went amazingly well, Chicago really came out to support us, and the festival was generous and very good to us. Not only that, but…

[!]  We won the Chicago Award vs. some extremely impressive competition.
West coast premiere at DOC LA
It’s an up and coming festival that suited us perfectly, and we got to catch up with so many friends that have made us who we are. We also sold out our screening here, so they projected it in an overflow room at the same time. That, and…

[!]  Shawn won Best Director here.

It’s nice to feel some momentum and community after so many solitary hours in solitary rooms. We are blown away by the love and support from the 4 audiences that have seen this thing so far. Let’s hope it’s just the start of more to come.

Next stop: St. Louis International
We’ll be at St Louis International Film Festival this coming weekend. It’s particularly exciting for us, as there is a big diaspora population from the former Yugoslavia, and the festival has a long-standing commitment to stories by and about the region. Can’t wait to share it with them.

Know anyone in St Louis? Have them join us Sat Nov 12 and 13.

Finally finished? Can it be true?
Well, almost…we are so close, and what a journey and learning experience. It’s been inspiring and frustrating and humbling and beyond rewarding.

If you remember our last update, we assembled a top-notch team of talent for music, sound, color, and titles. Their contributions have indeed transformed our film into the gorgeous, immersive experience we’ve always envisioned. It’s been amazing to see it come together.

We only have some final touches to put on with the generous people at the Chicago office of the Mill and talented design shop Strange Attractors, and should have the final DCP (Digital Cinema Package) ready to screen by this time next month.

Almost ready for prime time
We have been finding some impressive fans and allies in the film community. We’re actively submitting to the most selective film festivals in the world to find the best possible premiere for our many year labor of love. We can’t tell you more than that at the moment, but look for our festival tour to kick off a bit later in 2016. Then, we will be touring with the film, bringing it to a festival near you.

We’ll have more good news soon. As always, none of this would be possible without you. We can’t wait to share Among Wolves with the world. We are in your debt.

Shawn, Kevin, and the team

Oh my, wow
It’s been an extremely busy and eventful period since we last posted. I am happy to say that everything is falling into place and we are on schedule.
The film is finally shaping up to be everything we knew it could be. We couldn’t be prouder.

A team effort, and family affair
Our tiny team has grown in scope and talent to take care of all the different aspects of postproduction, and everyone has gone above and beyond expectations, finding this to be the labor of love we have for so long.

The amazing and talented Katharina Fiedler was able to get us to our final “picture locked” edit via a long-distance workflow from Berlin.

Johannes Kunz worked his ass off and delivered some stellar sound design all ready and rearing to be mixed & mastered into a 5.1 surround sound masterpiece by long time supporter Alexander Berne and his main man Gary Baldassari in Alexander’s Florida Studio “The Theatre.”

Joshua Convey  and Skooby Laposky  made some magical original music for the film.

Titles & Design
The Strange Attractors  are on the job with the film titles!

We are super excited to be working with Luke Morrison at the Mill for the color grade, starting today!

Festivals ahoy!
Kevin and I have been trying to fill in all the gaps and keep it all together. We have started applying to festivals and are gearing up for an early 2016 premiere (mum’s the word, but it will be somewhere exciting). And of course we will have a big screening and party in Chi for all our hometown supporters.

OK that is all for now

Shawn & Kevin

February 27, 2015 7:26 pm  /  News

Due to situations outside of our control (namely Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar-nominated turn in a little film also entitled WILD), we have retitled our film to AMONG WOLVES.

It was a hard thing to do (to say the least). We had been working and living under the title WILD for nearly 6 years. Katharina, our editor, likened this to one day having to rename your 6-year-old child. With that said, the new title has a poetry and suggestion that captures the story that has emerged over those 6 years. We have all come to love it, and we hope you do too. Stay tuned for more updates and big news in the coming weeks.
